Relax & Rejuvenate
If it's your first time getting a massage, or you don't get one very often, Swedish massage is a great place to start. One of the primary goals of Swedish massage is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by using light to medium pressure and techniques like effleurage (circular pressure applied by the palm of the hand), long gliding strokes, friction, petrissage (kneading), and sometimes tapotement (those karate chop moves we've all seen before). The session may also include some bending and stretching of the muscles and joints.
If you think that Swedish massage is just for pampering, think again! There are many benefits beyond relaxation. Some of these benefits include improvement of lymph drainage and blood circulation, which quickens the removal of bodily toxins. It can improve flexibility and range of motion in the muscles and joints, and can also reduce muscle tension. Swedish massage is good for reducing both emotional and physical stress, as it stimulates the nervous system along with the skin.
